MEMBERS IN THE NEWS
Matric Limited Acquires AS 9100 Certification
Matric Limited, located in Seneca, Pa., is a model of excellence for Electronic Manufacturing Service Providers and is the regional leader in technology, equipment and quality. In September, 2009, Matric was audited for AS 9100 registration (the international standard for Aerospace manufacturing). Bureau Veritas, the world’s leading certification body, awarded full certification to Matric on January 14, 2010.

Based on the ISO 9000 requirements, AS 9100 utilizes most of the processes and procedures that were already well-entrenched into the everyday operations at Matric, so adapting to the stricter standards required little change. Matric acquired the original ISO 9001 certification in 1996.

It’s Orchid Fever! Phipps Annual Show Returns with Splendor
Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens invites visitors to beat the cold winter blues with a colorful new display at its annual Orchid Show, beginning Saturday, January 30th.  This year’s exhibition offers a new theme, design and experience, which takes visitors on a stroll through an enchanting historical expedition. Orchid Fever: The Exquisite Journey of the Orchid features scores of exotic orchids in addition to Phipps’ impressive permanent collection, which explores their mysterious and hypnotic history. This is a can’t miss showcase for garden enthusiasts or those in need of a tropical getaway.

Orchids will be on display in various rooms of the Conservatory, including a large concentration of plants in the popular Orchid and Serpentine Rooms. Visitors will immerse themselves in this unique flower species amidst pools, walkways and sunken beds. The exhibit explores how vanilla, once coveted by the ancient Aztecs, came to be the most commercially used orchid in any culture, and much more.

The 2010 Orchid Show is open during all Conservatory hours, 9:30-5 p.m. daily and until 10 p.m. on Fridays. The exhibition runs through February 28, 2010.
