EVENTS
The Pittsburgh Technology Council in partnership with the Pennsylvania NanoMaterials Center presents:
Managing Innovation - Boundary Spanners

On Thursday, March 13, learn how to successfully manage innovation by understanding and developing your boundary spanners – individuals who spot emerging technologies from outside of the organization and understand how these technologies are relevant to the organization’s innovation process. With the expertise of Dr. Lynda Aiman-Smith, Associate Professor, the Center for Innovation Management Studies (CIMS) located at NC State University, we will explore:
  • Specific processes, tools and techniques that Boundary Spanners employ
  • How information about new markets/products is disseminated throughout a firm, industry and eventually the economy
  • Principles of S curves, social networks and communities of interest

Bio
Lynda Aiman-Smith received her Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and Technology Management from Purdue University in 1996. Before returning to graduate school, Lynda had 13 years of managerial experience in a Silicon Valley company. She is currently conducting research on organizational culture in high-tech companies, examining how culture factors relate to recruiting, socialization, performance and retention. Her other research specialties include implementation issues, especially implementing new technology or implementing teams into organizations. Lynda has been a faculty member of NC State's College of Management since 1996. To learn more about CIMS visit
